More Fishing Regulations May Be Coming To The Naples Pier
Naples, Fl- The Naples City Council is currently discussing adding more fishing regulations to the Naples Pier.
They want to draft an ordinance that would possibly ban fishing on the pier for at least one day a week.
The Conservancy of Southwest Florida says that this could help save the pelicans.
Joanna Fitzgerald with the conservancy explained to NBC2 News that not all anglers know how to properly untangle and remove hooks from birds that get caught in their equipment.
She said, “They get tangled and then they die. So there’s a lot of injuries at the pier. They ingest the hooks just a multitude of damage that can be done.”
They are also considering banning overnight fishing because they have found fish guts lining the pier the mornings after shark fishermen occupy the pier.
