Lucky Man Escapes Alligator Attack On Sanibel Island
Talk about lucky! Somehow a man narrowly escaped an alligator attack on Sanibel Island this week.
According to NBC-2, the guy was working on cleaning out debris from Hurricane Ian on Monday when the alligator attacked. The Sanibel Fire Department said the man was clearing debris from a canal along Rabbit Road on Sanibel when the alligator lunged out of the water and started biting at his knees. It is a miracle that this guy was able to walk away with only scratches. In fact, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission said he was treated and released at the scene. Wow!
After the attack, nuisance gator trappers worked on identifying and removing three gators from the area. They were able to successfully remove two of those gators. One alligator was just an inch short of nine feet long, the other was seven feet long. Darkness fell before they were able to catch the third gator.
The trappers on Sanibel Island said the gators would be relocated to an alligator farm in another part of the state.
If you need to report a nuisance alligator, you can contact the FWC’s Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program by calling 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286).
