First It Was Devious Licks, Now It’s The Slap A Teacher Challenge
Tik Tok is one of the most widely used social media platforms today. In recent years we have seen stupid and dangerous challenges coming from this platform such as the Tide Pod challenge, the Milk Crate Challenge, Devious Licks, and now we have the Slap A Teacher challenge.
A list has been circulating on the social media platform on monthly challenges. September’s was Devious Licks, and according to the list, October is the Slap a teacher challenge.
Parents and teachers are concerned about this new trend and what consequences will arise from it.
Broward Interim Superintendent Vickie Cartwright said, “Not only are these challenges disturbing but they’re asking for our youths to participate in criminal or possible life-changing events.”
Miami-Dade Public Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvalho also said, “We will investigate any such act and shall prosecute to the full extent of the law anyone who engages in this very disturbing type of behavior.”
Multiple school districts are encouraging parents to speak to their children about how this trend can potentially be dangerous and can change the course of the student’s life.
Broward School District released this statement: “Broward County Public Schools is aware of virtual, monthly challenges being circulated on the social media platform TikTok. The most recent challenge encourages students to commit a violent act by slapping a teacher or school staff member. Previous challenges have promoted destroying school property and stealing. District and school leadership continue to inform families about these dangerous challenges and remind them that students will face school discipline and law enforcement consequences if they participate. Ensuring safe and secure learning environments for our students, teachers and staff remain our highest priorities.”
