VIDEO: Did This Former Olympian Crash His Plane For Views On Social Media?
The FAA is currently investigating a video from last November showing YouTuber Trevor Jacob, an Olympian that competed in the 2104 Sochi Olympics, in a supposed plane crash in Nevada.
The video showed Jacob flying his 1940 Taylorcraft airplane over the Los Padres National Forest near California on his way to Mammoth to spread his friend’s ashes. In the middle of the flight, his engine supposedly stalled out and failed.
After the supposed engine failure he immediately jumped out of the airplane with a parachute on his back and landed in a valley below.
A lot of aviation professionals and pilots are questioning the validity of this video and think that it was staged for views on social media.
Some points that were brought up are that he already had a parachute attached to him before taking off even though in other videos he does not wear a parachute. He also had multiple cameras on multiple points of the airplane and on his person. As soon as the airplane’s engine stopped, he made no attempt to guide the plane safely to a possible landing zone or airport. Instead of getting hold of someone over his radio, he immediately jumps out.
After traversing the terrain for a couple of hours he ran into some farmers and managed to get home.
So what do you think? Did this guy fake this video? Is this one of the most dramatic ways to get social media clout?
