Video Store Owner Caught in His Own Heist Movie
Well, that’s one way to make money.
John Duplease, the owner of Adopt A Video in Leominster, was arrested Saturday, May 8th after a yearlong investigation involving organized retail crime, according to Lancaster Massachusetts Police Department.
Officials say Duplease hired dozens of known drug addicts and shoplifters to steal items from businesses in the area so that he could sell them on his private Amazon and Ebay accounts.
Duplease’s heists resulted in a home search that police say recovered more than 5,000 items estimated to be worth more than $500,000, according to officials.
The investigation also led to the discovery of 26 “boosters”, people who supported Duplease’s criminal enterprise. Known companies who fell victim to this thievery include Home Depot, Target, Lowe’s, Walmart, CVS, Stop & Shop and Hannaford’s.
Folks, be kind, rewind, and don’t commit crimes.
