More Than A Dozen Saved From Sinking Boat Off Of Keewaydin Island
On Sunday, a group of 13 people decided to spend the beautiful day out on the water. Little did they know that it was about to from relaxing to terrifying in an instant.
The boat engine died and large waves began to overtake the ship.
Billy Connelly, who was on the ship, said, “The bilge pump died; one of the engines died,” and, “The waves were actually three to four-footers, started coming over the front of the boat, and within two minutes, the boat was going down, got life jackets for everybody.”
Luckily everyone managed to hang onto the lifejackets and coolers to stay afloat as the boat sank.
Shortly after sinking, Naples firefighters arrived to rescue the victims.
The scary thing is, is that some of the passengers have never been on a boat or knew how to swim.
Thankfully everyone is ok and Naples Firefighters want to remind everyone to have enough lifejackets aboard their boating vessel and have a GPS onboard in the event of an emergency.
