Lee Commissioners Voted On Ordinance To Limit Panhandlers

This new rule would prohibit standing in the median of roadways in Lee County.
Lee County Commissioners voted unanimously on the ordinance on Tuesday. But it hasn’t been signed into law yet.
The county insists that the ordinance is not targeting panhandlers.
Kat Duesterhas, an Advocate for Housing First Lee County said, “I’m very concerned that this ordinance will be attacking panhandlers. A criminal justice response to somebody that’s food insecure, housing insecure potentially, is just a cruel and counterproductive strategy.”
