“River Monster” Found In Caloosahatchee River
A new species of fish appears to be making its way into the waters of SWFL.
A Cape Coral woman discovered a dead fish floating on the shoreline and described it as being bigger than her seven-year-old child. She posted a picture of the creature on Facebook and someone identified it as an Arapaima.
The Arapaima is a predator fish from the Amazon River that can grow to be over 5 feet long.
John Cassani, an Ecologist for the Calusa Waterkeeper believes that the warming of the climate is bringing the species farther up north and he says that there could possibly be more.
