Candidate For Sheriff Of Charlotte County Is Banned From The Police Department
Andrew Sheets, a candidate for Sheriff of Charlotte County, could be facing an arrest if he shows up at the Punta Gorda Police Department.
He was involved in six incidents of trespassing at the police department.
In July, he went in the Public Safety Building where he shouted obscenities and slurs at officers. He was so loud that employees and civilians could hear him.
Punta Gorda passed an ordinance that bans audio and video recording unless it’s of a public meeting, law enforcement activity, or if someone provides consent.
Sheets would record each incident and post them onto youtube, which goes against the city ordinance.
When asked by police officers if he was recording, Sheets said, “Of course not. That would be racist.”
He received a trespass warning from the Punta Gorda Police Department on Wednesday and cannot return to the police department for one year, or else he could face arrest.
