Voting Rights For Felons In Florida Just Had A Major Setback
On Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to overturn a decision by a federal appeal’s court that blocked Florida felon’s from participating in elections.
That means that around 1.4 million people will not be allowed to vote in the state of Florida.
A spokesperson for Governor Ron Desantis said that there will be no comment on the matter until there is an appeal’s court ruling.
This has been an issue since 2018 when Amendment 4 passed. This allowed for most felons to vote, excluding those convicted of murder or sexual offenses.
85,000 felons have registered to vote since the Amendment took effect in January of 2019.
