Florida Waitress Saves 11-Year-Old Boy From Allegedly Abusive Parents
An Orlando waitress is being thanked after saving an 11-year-old boy from allegedly abusive parents, according to the Orlando Police Department.
Flavaine Carvalho was working on New Year’s Day at Mrs. Potato Restaurant on South Kirkman Road when she noticed a boy with bruises on his body and his family was withholding food from him.
She quickly created a sign that read “Do you need help?” and secretly stood behind the boy’s parents where they couldn’t see.
When he signaled “yes” Carvalho instantly called the police. The boy’s stepfather, 34-year-old Timothy Wilson II, was arrested and is facing charges of third-degree child abuse, according to WESH2 News.
The boy later told detectives that ratchet straps were tied around his ankles and neck, and he was hung upside down from a door, according to WESH2 News. He also said he was hit with a wooden broom, handcuffed, and tied to a large moving dolly.
The child’s mother, Kristen Swann, admitted to knowing about the abuse and failing to seek medical care for the boy. She was arrested on Jan. 6 and is facing charges of child neglect.
