Tropical Depression Seven forms in the Mid-Atlantic
Tropical Depression Seven formed in the open tropical Atlantic Tuesday afternoon, some 1,400 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The depression is expected to become Tropical Storm Gonzalo tonight or Wednesday.
If it happens before July 24, it would be the earliest that a seventh named storm has formed in the Atlantic Basin.
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts.
There are no coastal watches or warnings currently in effect.
