Wildfire in Charlotte County Causing Residents To Evacuate

Evacuations were called off just before 4 p.m., according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

Residents near South Gulf Cove in Port Charlotte were evacuated Monday afternoon due to a wildfire, according to Charlotte County Fire and EMS.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office evacuated a few blocks as a precaution, according to the fire department. The wildfire burning on Burns Terrace and Evelyn Avenue was under control as of 2:45 p.m.
There are multiple departments working together to extinguish the fire and prevent flare-ups, the fire department said. A helicopter with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office is being used to put water on the fire.
