It’s time to put down your lattes and pick up your protest signs, because according to NBC News, the screenwriters are staging a strike! I know Hollywood is far from us here in Fort Myers or Cape Coral, But the Writers Guild of America has had enough of their monkey business and is demanding some serious changes. They include better working conditions, more writers per episode, and the preservation of the sacred “writer’s room”. And after days of fruitless negotiations, they’re taking to the streets to make their voices heard.

But what does this mean for the rest of us? Well, for starters, we might have to actually read a book or go outside. gasp The horror! But don’t fret, my fellow couch potatoes, for we have the power of the digital age on our side. With platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Snapchat, we’ll never be without something to binge-watch. In fact, we might even discover some hidden gems that we never would have found otherwise. So maybe this strike is a blessing in disguise?

Writers Strike Blues:

Me? I’ll be fine. I’m going to watch all my favorite show from when I was a kid. That will hold me over. As for the studios, they might face some tough times ahead, including potential layoffs and financial hits. But hey, maybe it’s time for them to start valuing the true creative forces behind their shows and movies instead of treating them like expendable pawns. Without writers, they wouldn’t have anything to produce, so maybe it’s time to show a little appreciation?

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Hollywood writers have gone on strike, and it probably won’t be the last. But let’s hope that the powers that be start listening to their demands before we’re stuck watching reruns of Friends for the umpteenth time.  The writers’ strike may leave us high and dry, but fear not fellow TV addicts!
