Al Capone’s Former Florida Home Set For Demolition
Gangster Al Capone’s former South Florida home that he owned for nearly two decades, and died in, is set for demolition.
The Miami Herald reports that the new owners of the nine-bedroom home in Miami bought it for $10.75 million this summer and now plan to knock it down due to flood damage and standing water under the house and build an 8 bed-8 bath two-story home with a Jacuzzi, spa and sauna.
The city of Miami Beach said the house will be looked at for possible historic designation later this month, but one of the new owners, Todd Glaser, said it won’t stop him and that “the house is a piece of crap. It’s a disgrace to Miami Beach.”
Capone bought the house in 1928 for $40,000 and died at the home in 1947 from a heart attack. Rumor has it that the home is where Capone and his associates planned the St. Valentine’s Day massacre in Chicago in 1929.
