Chinese Man Lives In A House Surrounded By A Highway
There’s a Chinese man who lives in a house surrounded by a highway. It’s like something out of an eccentric fairy tale or a story but it’s all very real.
Huang Ping sounds like a defiant individual. However, one man’s defiant is another’s stubborn. Which one is he? Well, that’s for you to decide. He refused to leave his home and now he lives in the middle of a highway under construction in Jinxi which is a town southwest of Shanghai, China. It sounds like the government offered him money and compensation to move but he declined the offer choosing to stay in his 2-story home. Instead of making him leave, workers decided to just build the highway around his home which is now expected to open this spring. It would make for a very unique living situation. Sounds like his 11-year-old grandson also lives with him and to avoid the dust and noise of construction they choose to spend a lot of their time in the town center before going back home when the work ends each day, per NDTV. That would be a very unique way to live, but if you love your house what can you really do?
Why Does A Chinese Man Live In A House Surrounded By A Highway?
Those are just some of the concerns Mr. Ping is living with right now. The frustrations and annoyances aren’t expected to lessen once the highway is complete. Once that’s done, he’ll have to deal with the noise of constant cars driving on the highway. One can imagine it could make things very difficult if he’s hoping to live in peace and enjoy some quiet. I really can’t see that happening if you live in the middle of a highway. Taking the government’s money was probably the better choice here.
According to NDTV, Ping told The Metro, “If I could turn back time, I would agree to the demolition conditions they offered. Now it feels like I lost a big bet. I regret it a bit.” No kidding! He definitely should have taken that money, whatever it was. It had to have been better than living in the middle of a highway like this. Everyone has their own regrets, this would certainly be one for anyone. Seems like it didn’t take very long for him to regret the decision. I wonder if he’s already tried to contract them asking for the deal again or even saying he’ll take half of what was previously offered.
