Florida Toy Show Draws Over 1,000 Attendees, Plans Expansion for Future Expo
More than 1,000 toy enthusiasts packed into the Caloosa Convention Center last weekend in Fort Myers for the Florida Toy Show and Expo. Vendors spread out across 10,000 square feet with rare collectibles, filling up 85 tables.
The excited crowd bought, sold, and traded items you can’t find in stores anymore. Hot Wheels cars topped most collectors’ wish lists, with LEGO figures coming in as a close second.
“They’re shopping for stuff that really isn’t available at the stores anymore. We don’t have Toys R Us and we don’t have the mall’s toy stores anymore. It’s all online,” Jeff Davis, a toy enthusiast turned event organizer, told Fox 4. “So, I try to make it so people have a thing to come out to. And they have a good time. It’s kind of like a toy party.”
As more physical toy stores close, the show helped fill an important need for collectors looking for specific items. With its overwhelming success, Davis is considering extending future events to two days.
