Was an Iowa nurse’s aide fired for flossing her teeth while ignoring a patient? That’s what’s being alleged–I’d hate to be that patient.

The incident reportedly happened back on December 22nd. The nurse’s aide has since been fired according to reports and the hospital is calling it unacceptable behavior that doesn’t align with their core values. He was being treated for congenital heart disease–which as you can imagine anything with the heart can be very serious–but she didn’t seem to be too bothered. Nurse’s Aide Flossing Her Teeth While Ignoring Patient

Okay, honestly, that’s worse than I expected when I heard about it. She clearly does not seem to care at all. She’s not even trying to hide the fact that she’s flossing her teeth and paying him no mind. While in front of the patient you should be giving them your full attention. If you need to floss your teeth, excuse yourself or do it while you’re on break. Doing it right in front of the patient (and possibly his family?) seems incredibly rude and looks that way on camera. I’m sure the family took it that way as well. I’d hate to come to afterwards and see a video like this. You know how much you pay while you’re in the hospital? It is not cheap and this is the type of service you’re getting? Again, I would not be a happy camper.

The Facebook video is captioned, “This is the care that my bestfriend Cole Cross received at outtumwa regional health center. Help us get this out there for the world to see.” The video was shared by Facebook user Joe Bainbridge and has more than 346K views and 711 comments. Commenters are sending prayers and positivity with many calling out the gross behavior from the nurse’s aide flossing her teeth. The bacteria easily could have gotten on the patient she was flossing her teeth so close to him! It would be a surprise is none got on him at this point. So gross! That’s not what you want to see from health care workers especially with a patient who doesn’t appear to be in the best position at the time. Not a good look. She had to have seen the person in the room recording her! Unless she was that out of it or truly didn’t care at all. Pretty shocking to see.
