Estero Considering Plans for 484 New Homes in Two Projects
Via Coconut, the bigger of the two projects, wants to build 330 homes near Corkscrew Road and Via Coconut Point Road. They aim to wrap up construction by April 2027. The land is next to the Bonita Estero Rail Trail and Estero Sports Park.
Over at Corkscrew Road and Sandy Lane, the smaller Summercrest project is looking to build 154 townhomes, including amenities that both residents and the public can enjoy.
Local shop owner Karen Williams is worried about the neighborhood’s infrastructure, pointing to traffic headaches that could get even worse. She told NBC 2, “I always welcome development to the area, and I think it’s great to bring new people, but I do firmly believe that the infrastructure should definitely support that before we bring in new people. I know we have a lot of traffic issues already. I think that needs to be addressed before the housing is just thrown in there.”
But not everyone’s against it. “I love more people being around,” said resident Brandy Garcia-Salinas, who’s on board with the projects. “I’m hoping that will bring in some of the younger crowd and maybe people with families. as well. Get some more kids playing out and about.”
Folks can show up to the meeting in person or tune in online to share what they think about these developments.
