36 Boats Light Up Fort Myers Beach in Annual Christmas Parade
Though slightly fewer than last year’s 40 boats, four boat owners jumped in at the last minute before the start. The glowing parade wound through channels and waterways, casting beautiful reflections on the dark water.
“This is just another one of our signature events, we’re breathing life back into Fort Myers Beach, into San Carlos Island, into Southwest Florida,” said Jackie Liszak, who heads up the Fort Myers Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, told NBC 2 Fort Myers. “We are here, we are back in business, and we are ready for Christmas and the holidays.”
Patricia Rosado, who usually spends the holidays in New York, couldn’t help but laugh at the difference. “In New York right now, we’re having snow and usually I go to like all the events in Radio City and all of that, so this is really exciting to have it in a different perspective and celebrate Christmas,” she said.
Crew members kept a close eye out, making sure boats stayed safely spaced throughout the twisting route. Perfect weather with calm waters made for an ideal evening celebration.
While this year’s fun is barely over, next summer they’ll start signing up boats for the 37th parade. The chamber is happy to take early sign-ups from boaters wanting to join next year’s floating holiday show.
