Florida Man’s Chewy Bacon Leads to Brain Tapeworm Invasion
It really doesn’t help that, as I report this, I’m eating chewy bacon. It’s breakfast time here in Cape Coral, Florida and, well, I love bacon. I’ve always said that nothing would ever make me want to stop eating bacon. Until now. It’s a tale so horrifying that most bacon lovers will think twice about consuming their favorite meat treat.
According to Yahoo news, a 52-year-old guy in Florida was getting hit hard with migraines. Turns out, it wasn’t just headaches… He had tapeworms in his brain! How? Well, like me, he loved his bacon, soft and under cooked. Apparently not a great idea, it turns out. Eating under-cooked bacon caused his misery. The bacon went bad, leaving him open to this creepy infestation.
The condition’s called… Get ready. “Neurocysticercosis.” That’s where tapeworm eggs spread around in your body. Gross, right? Well, guess what? It can spread to others! The experts were pretty surprised really. Getting infected pork in the US isn’t common, they said. But this case might have wider health consequences.
Chewy Bacon Warning:
The CDC warns that if you get it, you can pass it on, especially if you’re a dirty bird and not real careful about hygiene. Wash yor hand man! It’s preventable, they say, but still, about 1,000 Americans end up in the hospital because of it every year.
This poor dude ended up with cysts in his brain from those nasty tapeworms. Not fun at all. Luckily, there’s a drug to help. After two weeks of treatment, he started feeling much better.
So if you eat bacon and have headaches, should you be concerned? Maybe. Four out of five times, people with this condition get seizures. Okay, that makes me feel a little better. Most of my headaches are stupid induced. Ya know, like when I think to hard. I guess the best way to avoid those tapeworms is to cook your bacon properly. Or never eat it. Sure. Easier said than done. Oh, and if your headaches are acting weird, maybe tell your doctor about your love of chewy bacon.
