2 Great White Sharks Spotted Off The Coast Of Florida
Much like birds, this is the time of year when great white’s start heading south and 2 Great White sharks were spotted off the the coast of Florida.
You may be in Florida because you hate the cold. Whether you grew up here and never left, or like me, made the move to escape the cold north. I was born and raised in the Midwest and finally decided that I didn’t want to scrape the windows and worry about driving in snow and ice anymore. And so I headed south and that’s how I ended up here in Fort Myers. And for those who don’t want to give up the north entirely, we have snowbirds. Who knew that they had something in common with Great White sharks? When the weather, and the water, up north begins getting colder, the apex predators begin their journey south. With that, the migration served as not only a more comfortable living environment in warmer waters, but also more abundant prey.

If you haven’t checked out the OCEARCH website, it’s one that I totally recommend if you enjoy sea life. It’s the coolest website that tracks all sorts of creatures in our waters here in Florida and around the world. Last month, there was a Great White spotted around Daytona Beach and this week 2 more pinged. One, a massive 1400 pounder, was spotted north of Jacksonville Beach and another not far from Biscayne Bay. We don’t need to worry as much about Great White’s here on the West Coast of Florida, but it’s still a smart idea to be aware when in the water. However, even if not in shark season, it’s good to keep your eyes open. It is their home after all.
Closer to home, here in Southwest Florida, I looked on the site this morning to see what might be swimming in our waters. There’s a Bull Shark named Sabrina Southwest of Boca Grande and 2 Green Sea turtles west of Captiva.
