Florida Schools Fare Quite Well On National Signing Day
Florida college football programs may be out of the upcoming college football playoff, but they still have something to celebrate. Yesterday that national early signing period officially opened and the three major Florida teams had a good day.
The future appears to be as bright as the Florida sun in Tallahassee, Gainesville, and Miami. To start, Florida State had 22 commits, with 15 of them being 4-star recruits. The University of Florida had 18 commits, however two of them are 5-star recruits. Heading south, Miami may have had the best day of them all. The Hurricanes had 27 commits. Of that, two are 5-star and 11 are 4-star recruits. 247 Sports currently has Miami as the third best team so far in the off-season recruiting game.
“The Hurricanes closed on a torrid run to seal one of the top classes in the country and a group that rivals Florida State for the best in the ACC,” USA Today said of Miami’s big splash.
So, Who Is Going To Play College Ball In Florida?
In the current landscape of NCAA college football with NIL deals, player commits can change as much as hairstyles. For example, top-rated quarterback Dylan Raiola, has already flipped schools three times (now landing in Nebraska). Nonetheless, here are some of the names to look out for (as of now) who plan to play their college football here.
- 5-star quarterback, DJ Lagway (#3 ranked QB) committed to Florida.
- 5-star d-lineman, Justin Scott (#3 ranked DL) committed to Miami
- 4-star cornerback, Charles Lester III (ranked #3 CB) committed to Florida State
Furthermore, USA Today had the highest praise for Justin Scott saying, “the biggest get is five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott, who the Hurricanes pulled out of Chicago against competition from every major player.”
Though the focus on national signing day classes is on the future, two of these Florida teams still has a bowl to play to close out 2023. First, Miami plays Rutgers on December 28 in the Pinstripe Bowl. Florida State will then play Georgia (the two teams left out of the playoff) in the Orange Bowl on December 30.
