738,000 People Left States Like New York And California To Move To Florida Last Year
Well there’s a staggering number. Is it any wonder why are housing prices keep going up in Florida? Citing new census figures released last week, the New York Post noted that Florida added more residents than any other state last year. As more people moved to Florida, however, many also moved out. 489,000 people moved out of Florida last year. That’s still a net increase of 244,000 people. The most in the country. So how many people left New York and California to move to Florida last year? According to the census, quite a lot, actually.
738,000 people moving to Florida have to come from somewhere, let’s start with California. Of the 817,000 people that left the state last year, 50,000 of those former California residents are now residing in Florida. I have friends from California, took them to Seed To Table when they visited Naples. Talk about a culture shock. Lol. But will they leave California and move to Florida? They are considering it.
Of the 545,000 people that left New York last year. 91,201 of them came here to Florida. Some to my neighborhood in Estero.
But it’s not like the state of New York is empty, 301,000 people moved there from other states. That’s still a net population loss of 244,000 last year – but – as the New York Times reported “As of mid-October, more than 130,600 migrants had arrived in New York City since the spring of 2022.” I’m sure you’ve seen that on the news.
The census just confirms what those of us in Florida already knew.
Even with the rapidly rising home prices, more and more people from states like California, New York, and others will continue to move to Florida
738,000 people moved to Florida last year. Over 19% of those new people came from just 2 states. Hope they brought their money. If not…
