Florida Has One of the Only American Cities That Has Never Seen Snow
Snow in Florida is a rare thing, indeed. But, it does happen. Anyone who’s lived in Florida long enough knows that in certain areas of the state, it can get chilly. Of course, it’s nothing like the Midwest during the winter, which is why so many people flock south. The want to get away from the piles of snow and ice. But, if you really, really hate snow, there’s some good news here. Florida has one of the only American cities that has never seen snow.
First, let’s look at one Florida city that’s gotten snow not super regularly, but a few times in the past decade. Going north in the state, it’s not uncommon for Tallahassee to get a trace of snow. But, measurable snow is another thing. In January 2018, according to Weather.com, Tallahassee got some serious winter weather (at least serious for Florida). That included measurable snowfall, sleet and freezing rain. It melted pretty quickly into the day, but it was a special moment for those who had never seen a measurable amount of the white stuff.
Moving onto the Florida city that’s never seen snow. The Farmer’s Almanac has a story about the places in America that have never gotten cold enough to get any snow. “As the summer sun fades and chillier nights and mornings begin to creep onto the calendar, your thoughts might turn to that four-letter word which some of us love, and others love to hate: snow,” they state. “You may wonder: What are some cities, states, or countries where it has never snowed?”
Florida Has One of the Only American Cities That Has Never Seen Snow
One of the only cities that it’s never snowed in is Key West, Florida. “Not only has Key West never experienced snow, it’s never seen frost, ice, or sleet either,” the article states. “That’s because Florida’s low latitude and low elevation hinder temperatures from getting cold enough for snow to fall, let alone accumulate on the ground.” Lucky Key West.
