No Surprise, Multiple Florida Airports Rank Among The Worst In Lost Luggage
Passengers wait for their luggage at the arrivals baggage belt area of Eindhoven airport. Long delays, lines, crowds and queues are formed at the security check and bag collection as the Dutch and European airports are facing staff shortage after the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic while the passenger and air travel has an increased demand especially during the summer for holidays as it is the first time without Covid restriction and measures. Dutch airport of Eindhoven EIN has also more people as travelers avoid Amsterdam Schiphol Airport where the waiting lines are sometimes even 6.5 hours. The lost luggage cases are also higher than normal. Many European and UK airports cancel flights and have long delays, creating a travel chaos for the aviation industry. To the surprise of probably nobody, most of the main airports in the state of Florida rank very high among airports in lost luggage. In fact, you can find five of those airports ranked in the 25 worst.
According to Forbes Advisor, Miami International Airport is the second worst airport in the country for lost baggage, just behind JFK Airport in New York City. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport also ranked in the Top Five worst. Other Sunshine State Airports on the list are Orlando International at 16, Southwest Florida International at 19, and Tampa International Airport tied for 25th worst.
With summer travel season in full swing, lost or damaged luggage is on many peoples’ minds this time of year. There were some other interesting findings in the Forbes study. American Airlines tops the list of worst airlines for mishandled luggage, while Hawaiian Airlines had the lowest rate of botched bags. Also, between 2013-2022, not one of the 100 busiest airports in the country reimbursed more than half of lost or damaged luggage claims.
If we’ve learned anything from this, it’s don’t be surprised if there are issues with your checked bags. If there are issues, there is a good chance you won’t be reimbursed for your troubles. Don’t hesitate to make a claim though, because you most definitely won’t be reimbursed if you don’t. Also, carry-ons sound a good solution whenever possible.
Breeze Airways Adding 9 More Routes Out Of Fort Myers
If you’re looking to do some traveling this winter and spring, Breeze Airways is adding 9 more routes out of Fort Myers.
Ever since I moved to Fort Myers, RSW has become one of my favorite airports. I love the convenience of it being 20 minutes away from home. Parking is easy, and unless it’s around Christmas, there’s never a problem finding a spot. I also love that the TSA lines are nice and short. I’m from Chicago, so O’Hare was my go-to and sometimes, even on a random Tuesday, lines would be over an hour. I do NOT miss that. In the last 4 years since I’ve been living here, 7 minutes has been my longest wait line thru security.
RSW also offers a variety of airlines including Breeze Airways.
I haven’t flown with them yet, but I’ve heard good things. They’re relatively new to Fort Myers as they began offering service last summer. As someone who travels to Las Vegas relatively often, I’m excited that they fly non-stop there on Wednesday and Saturday. In fact right now, you can get one-way fares for just $110 for the basic ticket. If it can work with my schedule I know I’ll use them. Anytime I can avoid a layover I will, even if it costs a little extra, so it’s nice to now have that option.
In addition to Las Vegas, Breeze Airways currently flys from RSW to Charleston, SC, Hartford, CT, and Providence, RI.
Just this week it was announced in a press release that Breeze Airways is adding 9 more routes out of Fort Myers. The new routes will start in November with one-way tickets starting at just $39. They will only have certain days they’ll be flying, but if you can make it work, it’s a great deal!
