This Is The One Movie In Theaters You Should See Right Now
Over the weekend I went to the movies for the first time in about six years, and this is the one movie in theaters you should see right now.
I’m not a big movie goer, or movie watcher for that matter. But when I heard about Sound of Freedom, I knew it was one I couldn’t miss. Here in
Southwest Florida, it’s been incredibly hot, so I traded a day at the beach for a day in the AC at Regal Cinemas Belltower in Fort Myers.
What is the movie about?
Prior to getting to the theater, I really hadn’t heard a whole lot about this movie. All I knew was that it’s based on a true story, about child sex trafficking. It follows Tim Ballard, a federal agent that quits his job with the mission to save children from trafficking in Columbia. It’s absolutely heartbreaking, but the fact that it’s based on a true story, with clips at the end of the real life guy and parts of the raid, make the movie even more powerful.
I will say, it’s hard to watch. My friend Christina came with me and she said at the end, “My tear ducts were not ready for this.” Really not a dry eye in the house. But, especially here in Florida, sex trafficking is happening every day under our noses, so it’s important to be aware of what’s going on, locally and around the world. According to savethechildren.org, worldwide, children make up 27% of all human trafficking victims and two out of every three child victims are girls. Human trafficking brings in 150 billion annually.
Sound of Freedom isn’t a Hollywood production, so it doesn’t have Hollywood money for marketing. The majority of the promotion for this film is word of mouth. Angel films has set up a ticketing system where people have donated tickets or have paid it forward so others can go. So if it’s not in the budget to go to the theater, you can grab a promo code for a free ticket here and redeem it through Fandango.
I absolutely loved this film. It was emotional and overwhelming, but so important. If there’s one movie in theaters you should see right now, let it be Sound of Freedom.
