A Lesson in What Not to Do: Florida Teacher Allows Student to Hit Vape Pen
A Lesson in What Not to Do: Florida Teacher Allows Student to Hit Vape Pen.
This is how to lose your Job in one easy step. This is the story of Jennifer Hale, a Florida substitute teacher in Lake County who decided that the best way to fit in with her students was to let them hit her vape pen. Genius move, Jennifer.
According to WFLA, a seventh-grader in Hale’s class expressed interest in vaping, and instead of doing the responsible thing and shutting it down, Hale allegedly said, “I have one,” and let the student take a puff. And just to make sure that no one snitched, she reportedly told the class not to narc her out. Smooth move, Hale.
Florida Teacher:
But alas, as with most things in life, all good things must come to an end. Another student reported the incident, and Hale was promptly escorted off campus and told to never come back. And if that wasn’t bad enough, she admitted to police that she gave the kid her vape pen after being told “You have the right to remain silent.” Wow. Now that was a smart move. When asked why she did it, her response was, and I quote, “I just wanted to fit in.” Ah yes, because nothing says “cool substitute teacher” like sharing your vape with a seventh-grader.
In a shocking turn of events, the police chief did not mince words when commenting on Hale’s actions. “You can’t do this. You just can’t do it,” he said. “This should be common sense.” Preach, Chief Capri. Preach.
As a result, Hale has been charged with child abuse, which is a third-degree felony, and was released on a $1,000 bond. The Lake County School District has confirmed that she is no longer employed with the district. We can only hope that she uses this as a learning experience and reevaluates her life choices.
Florida: 10 Companies Hiring Remote Workers Now
There’s a lot of interest from workers to find Florida companies hiring remote workers. Now, some companies are exclusively going that route. The number of jobs that state workers can be remote has almost tripled from pre-pandemic levels. Specifically, the number has gone from about 4% of in 2019 to about 12% of jobs in 2022. Those numbers are according to ZipRecruiter.
“The pandemic-induced 50-year acceleration in the shift to remote work has now firmly taken root as a win-win-win for workers, businesses, and the economy,” ZipRecruiter.com says. “For workers, it offers the chance to access distant opportunities, save time and money, lower the risk of contracting Covid, escape gas price inflation, work from anywhere, and spend more time with family.” They add that for businesses, “it provides access to a wider and more diverse talent pool.” It also “reduces real estate and overhead costs, and increases labor productivity while reducing absenteeism. And on a national scale, it may help us avoid a wage-price spiral.”
When it comes to the type of companies looking to hire remote workers, according to ZipRecruiter.com, it’s high on tech jobs. “The share of job postings offering remote work was slowly growing before the pandemic, thanks to the rise of technologies such as cloud computing and video conferencing, but the trend accelerated at the start of the pandemic, and has continued to build,” they state. They add that even though roughly 12% of job postings now “explicitly state that employees may work remotely, there is considerable variation across industries, with less than 1 in 50 job postings offering remote work in transportation and storage (unsurprisingly), but more than 1 in 4 job postings offering it in the technology sector.”
