‘The Flash’ New Trailer Spotlights Michael Keaton’s Batman
The highly anticipated The Flash movie just dropped a new trailer, highlighting Michael Keaton’s Batman. Although the upcoming DC film is centered around Barry Allen/The Flash (played by Ezra Miller), Keaton’s Bruce Wayne/Batman takes center stage in Tuesday’s (April 25) trailer. We also get a glimpse of Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne.
Flashback of The Flash
Starting off with a scene of a foggy Wayne manor, we hear Keaton’s voice say, “I lost my parents. That pain made me who I am. I spent a lifetime trying to right the wrongs of the past. As if fighting crime would bring my parents back. You actually did it.” We then see Miller’s Barry Allen taking in his words as we see a flashback of his childhood.
Unlike Ben Affleck’s Batman, this Bruce seems to approve of Barry “breaking the universe” to save his parents. As we learn from the trailer, child Barry is told to call 911 as his father holds his bleeding mother on the kitchen floor. Barry says, “I went back in time to save my parents. But instead, I completely broke the universe!”
Next up, we see Michael Shannon as General Zod, who says, “If you went back to change the past, this world must die! You changed the future.” Another new character we see is Supergirl (played by Sasha Called). She shows off the iconic Zor-El crest on her chest and The Flash says, “It means hope, right?” She joins him in his fight against Zod.
Double Dose of Batmen
Keaton’s Bruce broke out his old catchphrase, “You wanna get nuts? Let’s get nuts,” as bats fly behind him. Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne is also in the trailer and tells Barry, “These scars we have make us who we are. We’re not meant to go back and fix them. Don’t let your tragedy define you.” We see another bonus Flash join Barry and Supergirl and a lot of intense action scenes and flashbacks with bright oranges and blues.
Per Deadline, The Flash director Andy Muschietti praised Miller as “one of the best actors I’ve ever worked with. Every tool in the toolkit… [Miller] is an incredible comedian and [has] all the action required for a big spectacle like this.” As we previously reported, Miller has been at the center of several scandals. Among Miller’s scandals last year, they were charged with stealing liquor from a Vermont neighbor in May. Their plea deal was for a reduced sentence of trespassing.
The actor has since sought treatment for complex mental health issues. In regards to Miller’s future with the DC universe, bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran said that the actor was making progress with their therapy and that Miller’s future with the franchise isn’t necessarily over. Assessments will be made after the movie hits theaters this summer.
The Flash hits theaters on June 16. Watch the trailer below:
