Rihanna Has The Second-Most Watched Super Bowl Halftime Show
Rihanna’s Super Bowl Halftime performance pulled in an average of 118.7 million viewers, making it the second-most-watched halftime show on record, behind Katy Perry’s 2015 performance. RiRi took the stage Sunday night (Feb. 12) and wore a red outfit that showed off her growing belly. Fans speculated that Rihanna could be pregnant but minutes after she left the stage a rep for the superstar confirmed that she is expecting baby No. 2 with boyfriend A$AP Rocky. The two welcomed their first child, a baby boy whose name has not yet been named public, back in May.
“When I first got the call to do it again this year, I was like, [hisses] ‘You sure?’ I’m three months postpartum,” RiRi previously said in the Super Bowl Halftime press conference last week, per Billboard. “Should I be making major decisions like this right now? I might regret this. But when you become a mom, there’s something that just happens where you feel like you can take on the world. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world, so as scary as that was because I haven’t been on stage in seven years, there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all … It’s important for my son to see that.”
She previously turned down the gig in 2019 due to the 49ers quarterback Colin Kapernick’s treatment by the NFL. She told Vogue at the time, “I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler. There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.”
During her Super Bowl performance, she performed a medley of 12 of her greatest hits, starting with “Bitch Better Have My Money” and ending with her 2012 hit “Diamonds” while suspended in the air.
