Dolly Parton Crashes Duran Duran Red Carpet Interview
Dolly Parton was walking by Duran Duran as they were being interviewed by Access Hollywood on the red carpet at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday (11/5) in Los Angeles. The reporter noted that another music legend was walking by and pulled her. She said, “I am so excited to be here with you all. I didn’t mean to horn in on ya.” Duran Duran’s John Taylor says, “You horn on in now.”
The interviewer said that he assumed since she was here that, she came around to the idea of being inducted into the hall of fame for rock and roll. She replied, “I had to. I said if they put me in, I would accept it gracefully, and I will, and I am very honored and proud to be here with these great stars. I just thought well, I’m not equal to them when you say Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.” Duran Duran’s John Taylor says, “That ain’t true, Dolly, you are.” She says, “Well, thank you, anyway I am proud to be here.” The group’s Nick Rhodes says, “And now you’ve got a rock and roll album coming, I hear.” She responds, “I do, and I’m gonna hit on all of you to sing with me too.”
Parton then says that there are at least 25 songs on the upcoming rock album, noting that there will be four vinyls, “So If I’m gonna do it, I’m gonna do it once and do it good.” The reporter then asks if it was tough to write rock and roll, and she offers, “No, it was kind of in me. I wrote a song for the show tonight, and it kinda tells the story. It sets me up.”
Simon Le Bon says, “You are the most beloved artist on the bill tonight.” Parton says modestly, “Well, I don’t know about that, but to be here with these guys, is this not great?”
As we reported over the weekend per Vulture, Dolly said during her speech, “I’m a rock star now! This is a very, very, very special night. I still got rock and roll down in my country soul.”
Pink and Brandi Carlile paid tribute to Dolly by performing “Coat of Many Colors,” followed by Sheryl Crow and the Zac Brown Band performing “9 To 5.” Parton then returned to the stage, playing a black electric guitar, to perform a new song, “Rockin’,” which said she wrote for the occasion. She was then joined by Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Brandi Carlile, Pink, Pat Benatar, Annie Lennox, and Duran Duran’s Simon Le Bon for a set-closing rendition of “Jolene.”
