Florida Man’s Personalized License Plate Gives Him Lots of Problems
Personalized plates can be pretty cool. You can tell the world you’re single, married, a sports fan or even RETIRED! Those plates can come with unanticipated problems, though.
Florida man found out first hand that his vanity plate can complicate your life. According to WSVN, Robert Reinhold waited for many years to get his RETIRED license plate.
He was proud to be past his working years and wanted the world to know it. The problem was, it was already reserved.
Patiently, the man waited year after year to get the plate. Finally, the plate became available and Reinhold wasted no time in getting it proudly displayed on his car.
That’s when the real crap hit the fan. One day, Reinhold found a piece of mail in his box that was from the state of New York.
It was a notice to pay a toll in that state. Problem is, the man had never been there.
Then the deluge came, toll notices flooded in from all of the other states, too. Reinhold says it’s obvious that the car in the pictures that accompany the fines show that the car is obviously not his.
The man is the only person in Florida with the RETIRED tag, but not across the United States. To remedy the situation, Reinhold contacted EVERY state, asking them to correct their records.
To date, each state straightened things out…except New York. And recently, the account was sold to a collection agency, which has added additional fees.
Florida man has decided to get another plate and move on.
