Two Florida Beaches Made List Of Best Beaches In America
Living in Florida with so many beautiful beaches, it’s shocking that only two beaches made a new list of the best beaches in America. We’re so lucky here in SWFL to have Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva, beaches in Naples, Bonita Springs, Marco Island and Boca Grande nearby. We may be a little partial to our area since it’s home, but if you’re looking for the best of the best, it looks like you may have to travel a few hours north.
Dr. Stephen Leatherman, a professor at Florida International University, is also known as Dr. Beach. He’s also an author and scientist and his research has taken him to beaches all over the country. In fact, he’s visited 650 major public beaches in the United States to determine the very best. Talk about a dream job! He was even featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show for having one of the best jobs in America. He just released his list of the best beaches in America.
Dr. Beach uses 50 different factors including sand softness, water temperature, number of sunny days, wildlife, views, amenities and noise. You can see the full list here, but below are the top 5.
