It’s August and the dawg days of summer are upon us. Good thing there is good TV this weekend with lots of Olympic action. But when it’s time to take a break, here are 5 things to do in Fort Myers and Naples this weekend.

Flavors of Fifth kicks off in Naples it is a new event with a dual purpose. First, supporting local restaurants. Second, supporting a local charity. It’s a Prix Fixe dining event with nearly a dozen restaurants on Naples’ trendy Fifth Avenue South. More details below.

In other dining news, a big fundraiser is planned to help save an iconic BBQ restaurant in Fort Myers. For decades you could smell McCarter’s on Martin Luther King Junior Blvd before you would see it. The family business and owners have had several setbacks, starting with Hurricane Ian.

Fans and neighboring businesses have launched a campaign to help rehabilitate the dilapidated building and keep the doors open. A family BBQ event is planned for Saturday to keep the momentum going.

After a long stretch on the road, the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels are back in town. They have all kinds of back-to-school activities for the entire family. Take note, Hammond Stadium, home of the Mighty Mussels, is going cashless. Make sure you have your cash apps and credit cards ready.

  • Flavors Of Fifth

    There’s a new dining event along Fifth Avenue South in Naples. Flavors of 5th Prix Fixe dining event. Ten restaurants are offering special multi-course menus starting at $23.99. One dollar of each meal purchased goes to the non-profit Beverly’s Angels. It kicks off this weekend and runs through August 31.  More info here.

     

  • Downtown Fort Myers Art Walk

    Art Walk takes place the first Friday of the month in downtown Fort Myers. The streets comes alive with art. The galleries feature special exhibits, see artists in action and enjoy all kinds of activities. The event runs from 5-9pm. More information here.

  • Summer Luau Back To School Bash

    The folks at Gulf Coast Town Center are getting your ready for back to school on Saturday. They have a luau planned in the courtyard. Enjoy all kinds of games, win prizes and more. In addition, non-perishable food donations and school supplies are being accepted for Community Cooperative. 11AM to 1 PM, free.  More info here.

  • McCarter's BBQ Rehab Fundraiser

    McCarter’s BBQ has been s Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. And Cranford Ave. Willie Mccarter, owner of McCarter’s BBQ. McCarter’s BBQ has been in Fort Myers since the 1960’s. Saturday, August 3rd at 11:30 am. $25 for adults $10 for kids. More info here

  • Mighty Mussels

    The Fort Myers Mighty Mussels baseball team is in town this weekend with a roster of fun. Friday is Back to School Night. Kids get in free. Following the game there are fireworks. Saturday is Bark in the Park where well-behaved dogs are welcome. The first 500 fans also get a Mighty Mussels Pickleball Paddle. Finally, on Sunday, children 12 and under get in free. They also get to run the bases and play catch on the field. They play the St.Lucie Mets. More info here
