That cold front this week had people from Marco Island to Port Charlotte pulling out their jackets and opening windows. The thermometer may have climbed up just a bit, however, there are still lots of cool things to do this weekend in Southwest Florida. To help you navigate all of the fun, here are your Weekend Vibes for this first weekend of November.

Halloween is behind us and now the holiday season is upon us. Take advantage of the 50% off sales for Halloween accessories and candy, AND start your Christmas shopping at the same time. The stores are in major transition now and we will keep you posted on all holiday events as they get closer.

Cool things this weekend

It’s fall and it is time for the fair. A big one opens this weekend in Fort Myers on the grounds of Jet Blue Park. A fair of a different kind is taking place in Port Charlotte. It’s an eco fair. If you are a fan of Downtown Fort Myers Art Walk, it’s on for Friday. However, the hours are changing so take note.

The fair has all kind of thrilling rides and even some laid back ones for the kids. Who can resist a good Merry Go Round.

Finally, the Florida International Airshow returns after two years. But perhaps most important, don’t forget to change your clock this weekend. We fall back. If you are looking for some fun ideas of things to do with that extra hour on Sunday, here is a list that might just get you going.

  • Florida International Airshow

    It’s back after a two year hiatus at the Punta Gorda Airport. Get up close and personal to all kinds of vintage aircraft and watch thrillling demonstrations. They include aerial acrobatics, parachute teams and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds as the grand finale. Saturday and Sunday, gates open at 9am, shows begin at noon. Tickets start at $40 for adults $15 for kids. More infornation here

  • Fair At Fenway South

    Fair At Fenway South returns to JetBlue Park this weekend. Enjoy midway games, live shows, a petting zoo and even racing pigs. And then there are the dozens of thrilling carnival rides. The fair runs Thursdays through Sundays until November 19th. Tickets $6 in advance, $12 at the gate. Admission does not include rides. More information here

  • Downtown Fort Myers ArrtWalk

    The first Friday of the month, downtown Fort Myers comes alive with art. The galleries feature special exhibits, see artists in action and enjoy all kinds of activities. The event is at a new time, now 5-9pm. More information here.

  • Everglades City Centennial Music Festival

    This annual event is put on by the Everglades Society for Historic Preservation. Enjoy an afternoon of music, food, arts and crafts, and more. It’s at the famous Rod and Gun Club, Noon on Saturday. Tickets start at $20. More information here.

  • The Big Shred

    If you have a pile of personal documents that you need to dispose of securely, this is your chance. Protect your personal data from identity theft. The Lee County Clerk’s office is hosting a free document shredding event Saturday. Documents must be in a box with a limit of three per car. Free, 2pm-4pm, Estero Rec Center, 9200 Corkscrew Palms Boulevard.   • Eco Fair

    Lean about environmental issues facing Southwest Florida from energy and water, to landscaping and endangered species. Also learn things you can do to make a difference. The event is at the Englewood Charlotte Library Saturday, 11 a.m.-1 pm.

  • Walk To End Alzheimer's

    This is Saturday at Baker Park in Naples. Walk To End Alzheimer’s is done nationwide and is the biggest annual fund raiser for Alzheimer’s care, research and treatment. The event begins at 8am. More info here.

  • Shoot Down Hunger

    At Belmont Shooting Club in Punta Gorda, this is a fundraiser fo the Midwest Food Bank. Lunch, clays and ammo included. Bring your own shotgun or use one provided. Saturday 9am. Tickets start at $150 per shooter or teams of 4 for $500. Catered lunch, clays and Ammo will be included with the purchase of each ticket. More information here.
