…And The Smashing Pumpkins Drama Continues
Smashing Pumpkins have a big announcement planned for tomorrow (February 15) likely regarding a “reunion” tour, but considering the interview D’arcy Wretzky gave to Alternative Nation, tour dates won’t really be dominating the conversation.
In addition to the text message screenshots she shared of Billy Corgan offering her a “guest” role in a Smashing Pumpkins reunion tour, Wretzky doubled-downed on her being outright excluded from joining the band in the studio. The particularly juicy part of the interview came via why the reunion talks even started, which has to do with Corgan’s role in investing into wrestling promotions TNA Impact Wrestling and National Wrestling Alliance (NWA):
“You have to see the texts to understand, but when it comes to money, he’s just disgusting. We almost immediately started talking about a reunion, because he said to me: ‘Well, maybe you know, and maybe you don’t, but with this wrestling thing I kind of got myself a bit into a bit of a hole.’ That was one of the first things he said to me, it was like the second conversation we had, but we didn’t want to do the ‘reunion.’ We both wanted to do the band again, be a band again, not just do a reunion. Billy always said, ‘Oh, I’ll never do just a reunion and play the oldies just for money.’ That’s exactly what it is now.”
Wretzky also offered up some very heartbreaking revelations. Recording was so stressful at one point she had a miscarriage that she didn’t even tell the band about. She also said ”Billy loved to humiliate people and shame people in front of other people,” and that she “just got to the point where I couldn’t fight anymore, and I needed to leave.”
As previously stated, it’ll be very interesting how the Smashing Pumpkins will handle their pending announcement, because this interview has some staying power even in our chaotic news cycle.
