Naples Porch Pirate Caught After String of Collier County iPhone Thefts
So this Naples Porch Pirate named Gabriel Antonio Bloise Hernandez, thought he could just roll up and snatch an iPhone off someone’s door step. Turns out, it didn’t work for him. According to FOX4, after swiping the package in September, the police traced his car as it bolted out of Collier County and headed over to Broward.
Now, you’d think the story ends there, but dude was bold enough to return to Naples on October 15th, 2024. But the police were on their game and pulled him over during a traffic stop. And guess who they found behind the wheel? Yep, Mr. Hernandez himself! Not only did they tag him for this iPhone theft, but they also linked him to two other package thefts in Collier County. Now that’s what you call a repeat offender.
But it gets worse. When they arrested him, they found more than just a stolen phone. This Porch Pirate had some controlled substances on him, and, as if that wasn’t enough, he didn’t even have a valid driver’s license. So he’s just won himself a trip to the Naples Jail and is facing charges from both the Naples Police Department and the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
Porch Pirate Prevention:
Now, for all you out there ordering shiny new iPhones or any other fancy tech, here’s the deal, phone theft is on the rise. I’ve had my phone stolen before, so trust me, these criminals aren’t playing. Packages are snatched by a Porch Pirate within minutes of being delivered. So, if you want to avoid your new phone going missing, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office recommend that you make sure it’s delivered somewhere safe, where you or someone you trust can grab it. Track that package like your life depends on it, and get some video surveillance up if you can. Maybe even go the extra mile and get a lockbox.
And hey, if you see someone lurking around, don’t be afraid to report it. Don’t let dudes like Hernandez get away with it.
