Whether it’s donuts, cupcakes, cakes or strudels, there’s something for everyone inside a bakery and a bakery in the Tampa-area has been named the best in Florida.
I have a soft spot for a good bakery because working in one was my very first job. My friend’s parents had a small bakery, Bodi’s Bakery, in the small town of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin and after wanting to help from time to time, it eventually turned into my first job when I was 14. Mainly I worked the donut counter, and I especially enjoyed making the fancy coffee drinks. I worked there for about 3 years, with my brother working there as well. I feel like after spending so much time there, I’ve definitely had my fill of donuts of life. But every now and again I do get a craving for a cupcake or a good pecan roll.

Taste of Home put together a list of the best bakery in every state in America. And a bakery in Ybor City, just about a 2 hour drive from Fort Myers is #1. La Segunda has been open for 104 years and is one of the oldest bakeries in the country. The story of how it came to be is quite interesting. It was opened by a Spanish soldier who enjoyed the bread in Cuba so much when he was stationed there in the 1900’s, that he wanted to share it with others. If you’re looking for cookies, donuts, pies or bread, you’ll find it at La Segunda, and more. Taste of Home recommends the Media Noche bread, tres leches cake and the Cuban sandwich.
