Busch Light announced today that they signed a signed a multi-year agreement with Alva, Florida native Ross Chastain. Speaking of the new partnership, Ross states “On the farm in Alva, Florida, Busch Light has always been the beer of choice for all of our celebrations, and now that they are right by my side as my sponsor – it’s a dream come true!” said Chastain. “This sponsorship means so much to me as the brand not only supports NASCAR, but also places value and extends their support to communities that are close to my heart — the humble, hard-working people across the U.S. who enjoy cracking a cold one after an honest day’s work.”

Ross stays true to his watermelon roots as he smashes a watermelon from the top of his car after a victory. His latest version of the watermelon smash has been sharing pieces of the watermelon with fans in the stands. My first thought is that it’s someone’s job in his crew to make sure there’s always a watermelon at the track, ready for Ross’s next victory.

Before he made his way through the racing ranks on up to NASCAR, Ross Chastain was an eighth-generation watermelon farmer. He is a graduate of Riverdale High School in Fort Myers before attending Florida Gulf Coast University for a semester. That’s when he left school to join the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. If you’re a die hard SWFL race fan, you may have seen Ross back in the early 2000’s at the  Punta Gorda Speedway. He was out there racing as early as age 12.

As for any future promotions between Busch Light and Ross Chastain, we’ll have to wait and see what they have planned.

Does this mean a Busch Light Watermelon flavor could be on the way? They already have apple and peach – so why not?

Here’s the official announcement video. I’ll also post some of my favorite Ross Chastain moments. Congratulations on your new deal Ross. Good to see you representing Southwest Florida out there.

  • Watermelon smash

Smashing the watermelon after the Nashville race. I think everyone stayed in their seats until Ross did this. Not a moment to miss.

  • In the stands

Ross brought his smashed up watermelon into the stands to share.

  • Ross made the greatest racing move ever

Couldn’t leave this one out. I doubt we’ll ever see it again. Here’s the whole video so you can really see the buildup to the finish.
