Fans of Taco Bell Can Pick The Next Throwback Menu Item

Fans of Taco Bell will have the power to bring back a throwback menu item for a limited time. Last year, Taco Bell launched fan-favorite voting and the Enchirito beat out the Double Decker Taco with 62 percent of more than 765,000 votes cast. This year they’re bringing it back with a new matchup.

“We’ve heard our fans’ passionate pleas and seen their grassroots campaigns – and even tattoos – for us to reintroduce former menu items. And now, it’s up to these fan-made movements to decide which item comes out a winner,” said Dane Mathews, Chief Digital Officer at Taco Bell. “Our fans rigorously turn to our social media to voice their menu item love. We’re excited to give them the opportunity to redistribute that passion through this unique in-app voting experience that impacts real change on our menus!”

You have to be a Taco Bell Rewards Member to cast a vote. Taco Bell Rewards members can now cast their daily vote in the Taco Bell app through April 12. The winner will be announced on April 13.

What can Taco Bell fans choose?

The first in the matchup is their Beefy Crunch Burrito which first hit the menu in 2010 and got pulled a year later.  It’s made a few brief returns since its initial release.  It has Fritos Flamin’ Hot Flavored Corn Chips, with seasoned beef and rice. According to Taco Bell, the burrito’s biggest fan Richard Axton created the Beefy Crunch Movement. That, apparently, inspired a community of over 66,000 followers.

The other option is their Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos.  They were introduced in 2013 and were dropped in 2019.  It’s a normal taco with a Cool Ranch Dorito-flavored shell. Fans have created accounts for the comeback of this throwback menu item and signed several online petitions requesting its return.

“Both Flamin’ Hot Fritos and Cool Ranch Doritos are a mainstay in the snacking category with a cult-following of their own.” That’s according to Scott Finlow, Chief Marketing Officer at PepsiCo Foodservice. “When it comes to creating unique culinary offerings with these products, we’re all in. We couldn’t be more excited to combine forces with Taco Bell once again to bring one of these beloved menu items back for a limited time.”
