Buzz Continues to Grow Around Smashing Pumpkins Reunion Rumors
Another Smashing Pumpkins reunion rumor is being floated — this time by original drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.
Frontman Billy Corgan has been hinting that he and Chamberlin might be regrouping with original guitarist James Iha and bassist D’Arcy Wretzky, and Chamberlin told Chicago radio station WGN this week that, “We were talking about playing next year with the band and somebody asked me, you know, ‘What’s it like trying to coordinate that?’ I said it’s like ‘Grumpy Old Men 3,’ only there’s four grumpy old men and one’s a woman. So that’s how it’s gotten to be.”
Chamberlin has been in and out of the Pumpkins over the year but was back in the lineup for the most recent tour in 2016. Wretzky left in 1999 while Iha quit in 2000 but popped up to guest at some of the group’s shows last year.
Of his relationship with Corgan, Chamberlin said that, “The two hours that we spend playing music together is the greatest thing in the world. It’s the other 22 hours of the day that him and me are…He’s got opinions, I’ve got opinions. We’re both grown men, right?”
As they say, stay tuned…
