Jonathan Davis Says Estranged Wife’s Death Influence New Korn Album
Korn made headlines yesterday with the announcement of their new studio album, The Nothing, and now singer Jonathan Davis is discussing how major life events, like the sudden passing of his estranged wife, Deven, influenced the new material.
Davis spoke with Kerrang! and said, “It’s a very dark record, it’s basically all the stuff that happened to me last year, it’s very emotional for me, but it is what it is. I can’t wait for people to hear it, I really spent a long time on doing what I wanted to do this time.”
Deven Davis passed away in August 2018, and her death was ruled an accidental overdose. She and Jonathan had two children together. Jonathan Davis filed for divorce in 2016.
Davis also talked about how outside forces came in to speed up the writing and recording process, but he stood up for his art and said, “I finally just said I was fed up with it, kicked everyone out and said it’ll be done when its done. I locked myself in my studio and spent a lot of time reflecting and healing and making my art. A couple of months later I came out and it’s done…The whole record is about basically the same thing, all the songs are about this dark energy that’s followed me around, and with all the things going on last year, it’s me embracing it… trying to navigate myself through the chaos that was going on at the time.”
The Nothing will be released on September 13 and is currently available for pre-order in a variety of formats and exclusive bundles at KornOfficial.com. The album’s first single, “You’ll Never Find Me,” is currently available through all digital streaming platforms.
