Crypto Crime: Florida Man Nabbed in $230M Bitcoin Theft
A dude from South Florida just got hit with some serious charges. The FBI grabbed a guy named Malone Lam, only 20 years old, who’s from Singapore but bounces between Miami and L.A. This guy, along with his buddy Jeandiel Serrano, is accused of stealing over $230 million in cryptocurrency. Yeah, not thousands, not millions… But hundreds of millions.
According to WPLG, Malone, who goes by “Anne Hathaway” online (and yeah, that’s as weird as it sounds), teamed up with Jeandiel, who calls himself “VersaceGod.” These two, along with some other folks, figured out how to sneak into people’s crypto accounts, swipe their cash, and then wash it all clean like laundry. They used all kinds of shady tactics, like VPNs and peel chains… Basically stuff that makes it hard to trace where the money came from.
Stolen Crypto:
Now, what did they do with all that stolen crypto? They went all out. I’m talking traveling around the world, thew best nightclubs, luxury cars, blingy watches, and even designer handbags. Oh, and they also rented some swanky spots in Miami and L.A., you know, just to keep things nice and cozy while living their best scammer life.
One of their big scores went down in D.C. They finessed 4,100 Bitcoin from some poor sucker, which was worth a cool $230 million at the time. The FBI came knocking, though, and now they’re facing federal charges. As of now, Lam’s mugshot showed up in the Broward County jail system, but then poof! Just like magic… It disappeared. Not listed in any jail, federal or county. Suspicious, huh?
Miami’s a big player in the whole crypto world. So it makes sense these dudes set up shop there. But, looks like that high life just got cut short. Or did it?
