Pressure Makes Diamonds: Everblades Playmakers Expand on Confidence and Composure Going into ECHL South Division Finals
You just can’t get rid of the Florida Everblades.
After pulling out a win with their backs up against a wall in Round 1 of the playoffs against the Jacksonville Icemen, the Everblades know what it’ll take to bring the Kelly Cup back to South West Florida for the third year in a row: confidence and composure.
“I believe in myself, and I believe in my group that I have in front of me,” said Everblades starting goalie Cam Johnson. “There’s big moments and some people can’t really handle the big moments, but you know I like to look at it like pressure makes diamonds… Pressure is a privilege.”
Florida Everblades – Confident and Composed.
That’s the mindset that the Everblades shared today during morning skate when asked about what they learned from the Icemen that will be implemented against the Solar Bears.
“Playoffs are a little bit tighter checking. So in terms of that, just try to let the game come to you,” said defenseman Will Reilly who has 4 points so far in the playoffs.
One of these points plays tribute to game 7 in Jacksonville where Reilly took advantage of empty space in Jacksonville’s offensive zone after a feed from Josh Ho-Sang. Reilly being able to deliver in moments when it matters most provides Johnson with a sense of trust in the net.
Trust.
“We got a good thing going on here right now. I trust all of the guys in front of me, I trust my defense [and], I trust my forwards will be in the right spot,” said Johnson.
Part of that trust also resides on the shoulders of Sean Josling and his line-mates to get the puck in the back of the net.
“Lines have changed a little bit throughout playoffs. Me, Lam [Lambdin] and Pendy [Pendenza] played together last playoffs and we were pretty successful, so [we’re] just hoping to string along a playoffs like last year,” said Josling.
Hope isn’t the only thing the Everblades have under their belt going into tonight’s game, they also showcase dominant performance with the ability to settle in nicely under pressure.
