Pinellas Police Find Two Classic Cars In Lake While Searching For Missing Veteran
As Pinellas County divers thoroughly searched Lake Blossom for a missing veteran, they ran across something else they weren’t expecting to find in the murky water. Divers uncovered two vintage cars, both of which have been missing for decades.
Before you start imagining rare (and valuable) Hemi ‘Cuda convertibles or fuel-injected 1957 Bel-Airs, the reality is, the cars are pretty much junk at this point..and they are not worth much at all. Pictures from the scene show bent and corroded pieces of metal, almost unidentifiable. The first car to be brought to the surface from its watery grave was a vintage Volkswagen Beetle, most likely from the 1950s. Shortly after that, they found a classic Dodge Coronet, manufactured back in the mid-1960s. Because of their extremely rough condition and the decades of rust, positive identification will be difficult, to say the least.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Sunshine State Sonar Search Team and Recon Recovery teamed up to retrieve the cars. The water damage was so severe that the cars fell apart as they were lifted from the depths. Complicating the extraction, the water was deemed too shallow for air bags to be used, so the vehicles basically fell apart as they emerged from their respective locations. So far, the only clue investigators have is the license plate that was on the Dodge, which was last registered in 1974. No human remains were found in either vehicle. Source: WFLA.com
