Police: Tampa Man Stole From Hurricane Relief Vehicles
We’ve all seen the pictures and videos by now. The coverage of Hurricane Ian’s wrath has taken our breath, brought tears to our eyes and broken our hearts. Even worse, the damage to the region is nowhere near being fixed. The suffering will continue for a very long time. We’ve all wondered how we can help. We’ve donated, we’ve sent water and food and we’ve collectively lamented over the total devastation. Well, most of us have felt that way.
Tampa police have taken a man into custody who they say burglarized two vehicles that were being used for hurricane relief. Investigators with the Tampa Police Department say officers responded to a report of a man who was seen wandering around several vehicles that were being used to help others after Hurricane Ian. At about 4:30 am, security officers apprehended a man they say was attempting to steal from relief workers in a staging area. Officers say they questioned and arrested 35-year-old Bryan Antonio Cirino Ortiz on the scene, saying the man broke into a bucket truck and a Ford pickup and stole some power tools that were inside both vehicles. Those same tools were being used every day to help our neighbors. A Huge THANK YOU goes out to the officers, security personnel and electrical workers who responded and handled the situation.
