Florida Man Ditches Girlfriend, Jumps in River to Evade Arrest
Hard to say if this Florida man was trying to ditch the cops or his girlfriend when he jumped into a river to evade arrest.
It all started last Wednesday around 2 PM when Daytona Beach Police were driving behind 51 year-old Edward Sotelo who had multiple warrants, including a federal warrant for violation of probation after an armed robbery.
When Sotelo noticed that he was being followed, he tried to flee, hitting two sheriff’s vehicles and speeding towards a mobile home park. Once inside the park, Sotelo ditched his vehicle and the girl he was with and jumped into the river. According to officials, Sotelo attempted to swim for at least 15 minutes before giving up and climbing into a U.S Coast Guard Boat.
ABC Action News reports that Sotelo was arrested on his warrants and also charged with aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude with property damage, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, driving with a suspended license, and resisting an officer without violence.
The female passenger was arrested too, not only on two warrants, but also for possession of heroin, paraphernalia, and resisting an officer without violence.
