Dave Grohl Used to Play This Song Backstage Before Foo Fighters Shows
Every musician has some sort of ritual before heading to the stage. For Dave Grohl, it involved playing a particular rap song.
Foo Fighters appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden as part of the ongoing press for their new album Medicine at Midnight. Since the new release has been referred to by the band as their “party album,” Corden asks the Foos what music they would put on at a party.
This led to an interesting anecdote from guitarist Chris Shiflett who said, “I remember when I first joined the band, we had a big boombox backstage, and before every show, Dave would put on Juvenile, ‘Back That Azz Up.’ That was our pre-show warm-up.” That’s right: Even Dave Grohl knew Cash Money Records was taking over for the ’99 & the 2000!
Taylor Hawkins, meanwhile, joked that at parties he plays, “Just yacht rock, always, all the time.” The whole interview segment can be seen below.
In other Foo news: The band was recently announced as nominees for the 2021 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As with previous years, the public will have the opportunity to voice their choice via the Fan Vote at RockHall.com.
The Fan Vote runs through April 30. Fans are allowed to vote once per day during the Fan Vote period. Visitors of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland will also have the opportunity to vote in person. The “Fans’ Ballot” will be comprised of the top five artists from the fan vote. That ballot will be counted among the other ballots filled out by various artists, historians, and music industry professionals.
