Pasco County Teen Charged with Soliciting Hit on School Employee
AN 18-year-old student at Fivay High School in Pasco County Florida has been charged with attempting to hire a hitman to kill an employee at his school. The teen had sent messages on Instagram that included “I need a guy who could kill someone. No joke. I need him eliminated as soon as possible.” and “We have $100,000 for the victim’s head.” The teen says he was only kidding but cops weren’t laughing after tracking the Instagram account’s IP address back to his home. He willingly sat down with investigators for an interview and showed them the cell phone he sent the messages from. While the police later determined that the teen “didn’t have a clear plan to follow through,” the fact that he posted his wish for a hitman on social media meant authorities had to take the threat seriously. The school’s superintendent has asked parents to “step up and step in” to their kids’ lives to keep civility in the school and community. The teen has been released from jail according to CNN.
