A moped rider had to a nine-day erection after falling off his bike.
According to medical reports, it took 13 months for the British man to “return to normal erectile function following the injury.”
Doctors from University Hospital Southampton say the man bruised his genitals from the accident and that the ensuing injury resulted in a “rare” prolonged erection.
According to doctors, “there was a grade IV erection with a rigid base and shaft with slight dorsal curvature of 10 degrees, which was non-tender. There was a superficial blood clot present to the scrotum and base of the penis.”
As the blood in his penis became trapped and was unable to drain, he suffered an erection for nine days.
Doctors said that treatment of such erections are”conservative either through observation, use of ice packs, mechanical decompression (for example via surgery) or an injection into the base of the penis.”
After the man went to hospital, nine days after his accident, he was given a microcoil embolisation – a process which involves a catheter being used on specific arteries feeding his erection to create blood clots to stem the flow of blood to the fistulas.
